Oct 2016

Please note that the AGM on 12th October will start at 7.45pm in line with our Show and Tell starts.

OO Gauge Matters

Wiring & Control
On the scenic section, final testing has been completed on the control panel and associated wiring. A DCC District Cutout (MERG kit) will be incorporated to protect the yard.
Scenery and Structures
Work has commenced on cutting the “foam” base to accommodate the abutments on the rail bridge over the causeway. Similarly, the large road viaduct bridge has been positioned.
Scenic Section Trackwork
The Romsey route Trackwork has been laid and requires ballasting.
The 3rd Rail
It has not been possible to find photographs showing the 3rd rail system in place at our time period.
The positioning of the 3rd rail on the up and down mainlines and crossover have been determined. based on current practice
Research has been carried out on the components of the system, being: the 3rd rail itself, the 3rd rail insulators, safety boards, cables and power cabinets etc.
PECO Code 60 rail and PECO insulators are not expected to be used and work is underway to develop a more realistic and robust system.

EM gauge Matters

The layout performed well at Woking, the 3 link couplings causing the most problems. Many nice comments made about the layout generally and the buildings in particular.

O gauge Matters

We have had to abandon our attempts to produce our own printed circuit boards to complete the logic for Canal Junction as we could not transfer the printed circuit to the board satisfactorily. So the PCB circuits are now being redrawn to suit standard 2 pole relays that will be mounted on ‘tri-pad’ boards. A shame as this means many more lengths of wire and soldered joints.

Other Business

The AGM will be on Wednesday 12th October at the club room starting at 7.45pm.

The club dinner is provisionally booked  for Saturday 25th February at the Potters Heron Hotel. This is subject to approval at the AGM.
