CHAIRMAN'S CHATTER

Chairman's Chatter Home

February 09

The club dinner this year was attended by the most ever and was I believe enjoyed by all. The Peter James Trophy was awarded to Jeff Geary for his design and building of the Itchen Bottom enigma. His comment that he should not receive the cup until we proved the enigma worked was unfounded as with most baseboards re-wired, it does work. Well done Jeff.

The use of technology for communication is become ever popular amongst those who have the equipment. I suppose this does suppose that all of us see our emails regularly, say daily. It would be helpful if those receiving requests could reply even if the answer is an obvious one as sometimes to the message initiator, the answer is not always obvious. One day I shall send this newsletter electronically but at present it suits me this way and I know that the diary is always available to you all.

OO gauge Matters

Peter Culverwell’s bridge has now been placed on the layout and looks very impressive.

In the last few weeks, Dave was able to convert some of the layout for DCC running enabling another dimension to our hobby to be demonstrated. Should we include a simple switching arrangement to allow this to happen more easily in the future?

EM gauge Matters

Track-laying has continued but with a few setbacks. More wagons have been fitted with 3-link couplings.

O gauge Matters

Exhibiting at Romsey will bring us all back down to earth as we once again re-learn how the layout looks from the other side and with a full complement of stock.

Other Business

The question of our 50th celebrations, the Summer Party and a venue are all in my mind at present. The suggestion of Dinner on the Watercress Line is proving to be a popular suggestion for this one off celebration. If we go with that option, I suggest the Summer Party is not held this year. Please discuss!
