April 2021

I am hoping that by the time the next Newsletter is due at the end of June, we shall be back having normal club meetings. Prior to that one or two may be allowed to go up to check the state of affairs. If you intend to go to club, please advise Nick who will remind you of the Covid-19 procedures we have put in place and also check other members are not already there.

My email about club heating and outside lighting has produced a response from a prospective new member looking for a suitable club to join, and as a professional electrical engineer, has offered to come along and give advice.

Club.

The next Show and Tell (on-line) is planned for Wednesday 14th April. Try and join us if you can. 12 members were able to join in March with most showing their work which proved very interesting. Similar numbers joined in January and February. In previous meetings we had been shown the excellent work Tony had been doing with coach and loco construction. It was good this time to see him and hear the updates from him in person.

There is no need to contribute if you have nothing to talk about, but to listen to other members’ trials and tribulations during lockdown is good for the heart and brain and may inspire you to finish that project sitting on the bench. You will receive the invite from Dave or Nick, and you just need to click the link on the night between 7.30 and 7.40.

The annual G0G open day at Otterbourne has been arranged for Sunday 1st August. We shall have the test track and 3 club owned 0 gauge layouts there and as a result much help will be needed. Please come along and although I ask you pay your small entrance fee, there will be a chance to operate all 3 layouts during the day.

The exhibition diary was sent to you all recently. I will keep you advised when organisers confirm the provisional bookings. Since then, Basingstoke have pencilled us in for 2023.

I would like to plan another club dinner in February 2022. We may not need the awards part, but I feel a social gathering to include our partners will be good.

Other Matters.

This quarters WhatsApp discussions include:

o   Richard S has moved to a new house and is spending a lot of time getting his modelling set up in his new garage. He receives lots of ideas and advice from other members’ armchairs!

o   Bruce is also having a change of venue for his layout, actually starting a new layout in a larger building. Good luck to you both.

o   Dave has designed and constructed his power and control panel for his new 0 gauge layout. Latest name “Covidale”

o   Dave has also installed his turntable.

o   I showed a couple of photos of Bigbury-on-Sea as I had spent a few days running trains and fault finding, which only intense use will find.

o   Photos keep coming to hand of Redbridge as it was.

Well done to all, keep modelling and please stay well.
