Chairmans Chatter

January 2024

A new format given our present situation. I will use this to keep you all updated with ANY developments that can be shared with you all. This will be mainly about new premises but also any changes to the club generally. May I suggest you keep a copy of the meetings handy given the different venues? Any changes or updates will be sent when known.

The program for the first two months of 2024 is attached as a spreadsheet. Please note that any meeting will be subject to change as we may need an EGM to confirm club changes that can only be made at a formal meeting. The EGM, if called, will be held at the booked venue for that date, with the official notice being given by the Secretary in accordance with our Constitution.

Please note:.

  • All meetings are on Wednesdays unless noted specifically
  • The times are normally 19.30 for a punctual 19.45 start but note one or two that start 15 minutes earlier.
  • Halls are booked for 2 hours only so we need to be clear at the appropriate time.
  • The speaker and organiser in each case are shown. They will collect the keys and deal with the hall admin.
  • The venues are spread around to allow some journeys to be less for some.
  • Please check with a street map or the internet exactly where these halls are unless you are familiar with them.
  • We shall no doubt repeat some of the venues, once tried choosing the economical and convenient ones.
  • Where we have meetings at members homes there will be no address on the web site, and these are members only, no guests

Update on Premises

Our sub-committee are continuing to meet and discuss our options with the premises in Hiltingbury, known as ‘The Basement’, a former building used by a boys club. The owners, Eastleigh Borough Council, have been given our intentions, on the basis we shall be flexible and willing to share the premises if necessary.  As we go to press progress remains slow and the outlook is not rosy.

Proposed New Layout

We still intend to progress with one of our three suggestions, summarised as A, B & C. As you will see a second Templot session is to be held to put layout “C” onto it.

Other Layout Proposal

A suggestion was recently made that could be moved forward whilst we meet in hired halls. This was for individual potential  “modular” layouts.  These would be compact, designed to challenge and enhance members skills. Developed individually or as small groups.  Scale is individual choice but if they intend to be modular a standard has to be adopted for the interfaces.

Something to discuss at a future meeting or elsewhere.

Club Dinner.

Given our change in circumstances, I believe we should still continue with these events. I will send out letters to all in the New Year

Finally, may I wish you all and your families, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We are progressing with a new clubroom, but it will take time.
