Oct 2014

At the forthcoming A.G.M. we are going to discuss the various trophies that we have and wish to use to recognize member’s skills etc. Please give some thought to this especially as to how the different awards should be defined and judged.

The David McKay Collection

The "trophy" mentioned in the last Chairman's Chatter has been produced.

Peter Lilley

Valerie Lilley has kindly donated a large amount of modelling items and DVD's

OO Gauge Matters

Track Laying

Almost all of mainline and fiddle yard points and tracks are completed. A small amount of realignment will complete the work.

Many of the points remain to have tie bars installed and connected to its "under board" point switching unit.

Wiring & Control

Electrical continuity testing continues and work is underway on the construction and wiring of the "master" control unit.

Buildings & Other Scenic Items

Following the discovery of a drawing for the down platform station building, a scale model is under construction.

Roger Stonham  has surveyed, drawn up and produced (using laser cutting techniques) an excellent model of the concrete bridge over the River Test. This has been "coloured" using materials that add texture and the result is very convincing. Final positioning on the layout has to be finalised. Thanks Roger.

Stock

Members continue to acquire locos and stock that will enable us to run an extensive sequence of trains.

EM gauge Matters

We are planning to extend the public road at the rear of the station as far as the goods shed.

This will mean building a corner house and a new wall.

Mick has commenced the construction of a trawler for the quayside.

O gauge Matters

Abbotstone’s conversion to allow DCC running is nearly there.

The next projects include completing the Instrument Boxes and relaying the MPD track following fitting the turntable in place.

Other Business

At the AGM it will be proposed that we do NOT hold a Christmas Party this year or in the future. We should, however, continue with our annual Dinner around February/March time and hold a Summer Party provided a volunteer is willing to host the event. The venue of the Dinner will need to be decided as Harestock Lodge will not be available.

Please think about these social events so we can have a meaningful discussion at the meeting
